Undergraduate Steps For Obtaining an Internship

Submit the internship application.



Identify a potential internship site.



Talk to a potential site supervisor.

  1. Prepare your resume.
  2. Gather information about the potential site concerning their mission, role, and work they perform.
  3. Ask for an interview.


Prepare a learning contract in consultation with your site supervisor which must include:

  1. Information about the site, supervisor and yourself.
  2. Detailed learning objectives.
  3. Detailed strategies and resources to achieve objectives.


Approval of learning contract which requires that you:

  1. Submit an online learning contract.
  2. Revise/confirm learning objectives.
  3. Approve contract in conjunction with site supervisor and internship coordinator.


Register for the Internship course, LIS 4940:

  1. Get the Internship Coordinator's signature on an individualized course approval form, before you register.
  2. Handle registration paperwork through the Student Services Office (Scott Thorp, Undergraduate Advisor).
  3. Registration deadline for the semester is established by the Registrar's Office http://registrar.fsu.edu/.
  4. Students will not be registered for an internship during Add/Drop. The internship process should not start during that time. Please review the academic calendar for Add/Drop dates.

For the next 2 steps you will need to access the Internship class web site.



Participate in internship seminars either in classes held on campus or through the BlackBoard chat interface.



Submit a monthly journal describing your activities, along with some analysis, to the Internship Coordinator.


Remind site supervisor to submit an end of term evaluation of your internship experience. This is due the last week of classes.
